Zilmon J. Boothe, born October 21, 1879, in Gonzales, Texas, was the son of George Jefferson and Mary Ann Jones Boothe of North Carolina. He married Augusta Iris “Gussie” Rochelle on April 25, 1906. Gussie was born August 6, 1887, in Gonzales, the daughter of Rougely Rochelle and Mary Frances Clark Rochelle who came to Texas from Louisana.
The lot was purchased from Zilmon’s mother and the house was completed in 1908. He was a very prosperous stockman, in business with his brother-in-law F.B. Houston. Zilmon sold the house in 1910 and moved to San Antonio where he operated a farm and ranch real estate business. Family members remember Zilmon as a handsome man and a snappy dresser. He was often seen in the lobby of the Gunter Hotel where he would meet and greet people and conduct business transactions.
Zilmon died June 4, 1945, and Augusta died July 26, 1966. They are buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in San Antonio.
