Robert Lee Brothers Awarded Citation for Distinguished Achievement in Poetry

Robert Lee Brothers, a local poet, was awarded the Citation for Distinguished Achievement in Poetry by the Lyric Magazine of Virginia on September 16. Dawe Feed Store had its grand opening at 212 St. Louis Street on October 30. In November, the city was negotiating with the American Legion to purchase the American Legion Pool. Seydler-Hill expansion was moving forward well on the north side of the building with a target completion date of January. On December 24, the City Council was still reviewing the proposed plans for the new library building. Finally, the Sons of the Republic of Texas #29 was chartered by the State of Texas (reorganized in 1997) in November.
