On January 4, the weather brought a mix of snow, sleet, rain, and low temperatures to Gonzales. Moving on to April, Lynn Smith sold the Lynn Theater after having run it since 1948. A few days later, on April 17th, the Gonzales Public Library was relocated from the Memorial Museum to a new building located at 415 St. Matthew Street, in Block 26. In May, the Guadalupe River flooded and reached a crest of 34.60 feet, causing significant damage. On May 24, “The Clothes Tree”, a store featuring ladies’ clothing, held its grand opening on Saint Joseph Street. A new “Dairy Queen” was also set to open on Highway 90-A on May 25. In June, the Gonzales Elks Club opened a new swimming pool at their facility on Highway 90-A. August 9 marked the grand opening of Shoe World, taking the place of the former Perry’s store on the square, although it is unclear which square is being referred to. Lastly, on August 31, Mrs. Myrtle Bluhm retired from her twenty-five year career as librarian at the Gonzales Public Library.
