On January 25th, work began on a new office for the Gonzales Inquirer. However, on February 18th, Reaves Food Market was set on fire by arsonists/thieves. In June, Dudley Hoskins Men’s Wear was sold to Bobby Baros after a 75-year history in the same family. On July 28th, H.E.B. had its grand opening on the corner of St. Matthew and St. Paul. On August 12th, the Gonzales Elks voted to purchase the former Boothe-Fehner Egg Processing Building and convert it into a lodge home. Perry’s also opened on August 12th at 508 Saint Matthew Street. On August 19th, the Harral home was razed to make space for a Texaco Service Station to be built. The house, originally built by George Littlefield for his sister in about 1898, was owned by Mrs. Elmer Gustafson at the time.
