Detailed Information
The 3 1/2 story Randle-Rather Building was built by J. P. Randle & C. T. Rather. It is a Roman Revival structure built of brick made in Gonzales.
This commanding three-story brick structure dominates the north side of the courthouse square and the entire block of St. George Street with its row of smaller brick commercial buildings.
The building’s five-part composition has an unusual central bay of recessed balconies framed with columns, capped by a stone arch, and topped by an arcaded fourth story. The tall arcaded ground-floor loggia and projecting end bays would make the house stand out in a much larger city.
