Eggleston House and School Building Improvements

The nine-hole golf course at Independence Park had reopened. Also, a new rectory was built for St. James Catholic Church on Block 46. On July 1st, the Gonzales Museum Board and the Woman’s Study Club considered restoring Eggleston House on Block 15. In July, there was a drought, causing the Guadalupe River to reach its lowest-ever flow. On July 10th, the foundation was poured for a new Home Economics Building to be constructed east of the existing high school, which later became the administration office. Additionally, Dr. Lauraine opened a dental office at 320 ½ St. George Street in July. On July 15, Louis Scholl retired after 25 years as park manager. There were two straight weeks of temperatures over 100 degrees in the town. On July 26, the temperature reached 112 degrees at 1:30 p.m. Lastly, the Gonzales Motor Company opened at 411 St. James on Block 11, selling Studebakers.
